I guess I must have mis-understood when I was told that Brennan's Xmas shopping was almost all done and that there was plenty of $ for it. He had done nothing for the Dittrich side of the family. And we had to cash in his piggy bank to do the shopping. (That is what it is normally for anyway but I thought maybe he could get something for himself later with that). Carla took him shopping for the Martinson side of the family. So off we went to Forest Lake yesterday. Made a list and worked with that. He figured out what he wanted for people and paid for it. Had lunch at Culvers and came on home to wrap everything.
We curled up last night with popcorn and watched "The Santa Clause 2" tonight I get to watch "The Escape Clause".

I got up early (was awake anyhow) to shovel snow but no snow. At least in my area for the moment. We are greeters at church this a.m. come home for a while and go back for their annual Rememberance Service to honor those who have left us. Brennan has his mom and 2 grandfathers & I have my husband. We try to do this every year if we can.
Then he goes home and I curl up and nap I hope. Probably will vacuum instead but I can dream.

Life is good. I love the holiday season. Not too crazy about driving to Champlin Thursday but it's Scott's turn to host so that is where Brennan and I will be for a few hours. I work till 1 p.m.

One of those days

Yesterday was "one of those days." Thursday night I put the finishing touches on my annual Christmas letter. Friday morning at work I selected the paper and proceeded to print them out. Got them signed and folded and in the envelopes with my cards. Last night I get a phone call and now this morning I had to make changes to the letter, and reprint them on non holiday paper. Got them signed and folded and now I have to swap them in my cards. Still not getting much done on decorating the house though. Too many other things cropping up. Oh well, After the Christmas with Elvis concert at church tonight I will be wide awake anyway, so I can work on the stuff then that I don't get done during the day. Next it is putting up all the snowflakes and tissue bells that hang on the silver garland I have already up all over the archways and doors. Then the other nicknacks I place around the house. Finally I will get the Tree physically up tomorrow and can decorate it during the week. The tree that I got last year is skinnier then my previous ones so it doesn't hold as many decorations. I may not do everything I usually do but I will get most of it done. It is just that I normally would have done it right after Thanksgiving but I had a nasty head cold and couldn't start till now. Feels so far behind.

I am sleepy tired but so far a nap has escaped me. My lumpectomy went fine this morning. I was out of the Piper Center by 10:15 a.m. and John & Deb and I were on our way to Caribou for a coffee treat.Went back to their house for a while and then to Bakers Square for lunch. I brought a wildberry piece of pie home and just finished that a couple minutes ago.

They used a local so I was awake for the whole thing but didn't feel much. When I did she just gave me another shot. The test results will not be back until late on Thursday. Dr. Stoller will call me at home to discuss them. She was very hopeful and said she did not see anything real scary so I should think positive. When I was there a couple of weeks ago Dr. Trombley said the same thing. One of the things she said was "Since a question was asked (by the Osceola Doctor) we owe it to you to find an answer." I personally feel it will be good news but if not-I will deal with whatever I must.

On the advice of my church parish nurse I took tomorrow off also in case I hurt alot but the Dr. even said I would have no trouble going to work if I wanted too.

It is rare that I can get a Wednesday off (deadline day at the newspaper) so I will really enjoy it. Let the other Judy handle it alone for once. There are many Wednesdays I am alone because she calls in not feeling well. Now it is my turn for a change. After 13 years there I deserve tomorrow to recuperate.

ye Gads!! it is all cloudy and icky out again. It was so nice & sunny a little while ago.
I am critter sitting over night for a friend. She left about 11 a.m., later then planned. So I will be driving over in the dark I guess to let the dog out a while and play with the cat. Dog hurt himself yesterday but Carrie just called now to say he seemed fine late this a.m. so if I want to take him for a walk I can, just not too far. Not sure I want to do that in the dark, lots of trails at her place but still I am not familiar with them in the dark.

Have been getting a lot of things done at home this weekend. Surgery is Tues. a.m. and not sure how long it will be before I can lift or carry stuff so am getting as much done as possible this weekend. T.v. this a.m. said not to rake leaves while ground is wet. Well then they will just have to stay there till spring I guess. They didn't fall off the trees in my yard till yesterday and it is very wet out there today with rain expected again tomorrow. I didn't really want to rake anyway.

Brennan will be here next weekend and he can help me with anything I need doing that I haven't already got done. I will be taking him to his mom's church for their Halloween doings like I did last year. He wants to help as well as play games and get candy. He is getting very excited now. His aunt invited him to go along with her the first week in Dec. to Mexico for a week. He is just thrilled.

Had blood drawn and meds renewed. No flu shots avail. here yet, watch for announcement in a couple of weeks I was told. Made appt. for Mammogram for Thurs. They no longer give them evenings so it was while on vac. or take off work someday to do it. Darn Thursday was my only free day to finish up any last minute stuff that may come up. Oh well, at least it is at 9:30 a.m. so the rest of the day is free. Dr. will call me at work next week with any test results. I want the call during working hours so I can ask questions or make appts. or whatever may be necessary if anything is necessary.

Thought maybe I should have a shingles vaccination. Asked - was told good idea but expensive so I should contact my insurance provider first. Did that and if I got the shot I would have to pay the whole thing up front, bill insurance co. and they would reimburse me minus $65 which is my part to pay. No way at this point in time do I have that amt.(the whole thing) to pay up front for that shot. But I did have chickenpox as a kid and I know I should seriously think about it for a later date. 1 in 3 people over 60 who have had chickenpox get shingles and it is a painful thing according to friends who have had it.

Have eye appt. on Friday afternoon just before picking up Brennan for weekend. Picked out frames this past Sat. Not much to chose from but I did the best I could with the selection they had. They all seem to be for these small lenses. I have a pr. now and want something a bit larger for my prescription. I know my eyes and know these were not the best choice last time with tri's and no line. Am thinking of going transition as well this time.Have to check $ and see. My sun glasses are already 2 prescriptions back and they cost a whole lot as well as the regular glasses.

things are getting chalked off on my chore list- slowly but surely. I was in and out of the basement today and I think it is finally all cleaned up. Have to check in the a.m. to see what the carpet looks like after I shampooed it. Left the machine down there in case I have to go over it again. Anyway it should be o.k. for family to sleep down there next weekend.

I am waiting now for the kitchen floor up here to dry. It needed to be swept and cleaned. Got the laundry all folded and hung up and put away too.

Even got my mail up to date. I have slacked off on that this summer for no good reason. Made another batch of Ratatouille as well with the veggies I had on hand today. Uses them up and makes a good meal as well.

Even got my shopping list typed up for my Wed. trip to Sam's Club. Am meeting a friend there. His wife called for a favor. They are having an anniv. party for his parents & planned on getting the meat at Sam's. They just now found that his sister had taken their name off the card. Judy just called to see if Rex could meet me there and use mine to get in & get the meat. It took me totally by surprise but then I thought, fine, no real problem. I sorta knew the day and the approx. time anyway that I was going. It was just to decide which store, Fridley or Maplewood. Both towns have the other places I wanted to go anyway so no big deal.

Still have more to do yet tonight. Want to check out Jerry's Telethon from the beginning.
Carrie game this a.m. with her truck and we transported Brennan's air hockey table over to his new house. They have plenty of room for it and they all enjoy playing the game too.

Carrie headed back in this direction while Brennan and I headed over to Champlin to his dad's house. Scott's father in law invited us to go to the Ramsey/Nowthen, Minn. Threshing show. He really wanted to show Brennan all the things he is passionate about. We got to see a lot of old classic tractors, a saw mill, lots of flea market tables set up, food vendors, some live country music in the pavillion. Little Anthony even got to push a plow and plow up a whole row of sod behind the oxen. That was kinda neat.I saw a lot of things I remember from my grandfathers farm back in the day. And I found a place that was selling big pickles for 50 cents and had 4 of them. Very good pickles.

After about 2 hours we were able to meet up with Brennan and Eric and Brennan came with us walking around for a while. We had used 2 vehicles to get all of us there. Eric wanted to stay longer so the rest of us just headed back. Decided to go to CiCi's for a very late lunch. All you can eat pizza buffet (with other stuff as well) for $5.49 Very good food and the fresh cinn. rolls were to die for. We really pigged out it was so good.

Went back to Scott's house for a while and then headed on home. It was a fun day but I sure am tired now.
weather, weather. Great staying inside day yesterday, which I did most of the day. Went to breakfast early. Dropped Brennan off to visit with his friend Josh. Tried to go to the all day benefit for an injured store owner here in town. The crowds were not large but the weather was not cooperating. Hope the spaghetti dinner went well at his church last night. People gotta eat. Brennan called twice. What time did he have to be home and then can I spend the night? Sure - with weather coming in at the time he was better off where he was. I expect him back here within an hour or so because he knew the time we have to be at church for the outdoor service and the pancake breakfast. They promised to bring him back in time this morning. He gets to be with Josh for as long as possible this way too. Josh goes to his church this morning to say goodbye to everyone and it is back to Calif where they live now.
time to sit down now and look at the newspaper for a while in peace and quiet.

Well, she does a line, then he does, then she does etc. strange thing this facebook stuff.

Brennan is with me this weekend but not here at the moment. When he lived in Wyoming, Mn. his best friend was Josh, then a couple months after Melissa died, Josh and family moved to Calif. They are in the area (North Branch) visiting relatives. I met up with Jeff(the dad) about an hour ago and made the kid exchange. They leave tomorrow so it was the only time Brennan could visit with his friend. We had things planned for today but since it looks like it will rain off and on all day we couldn't do anything on the agenda anyway. There is a big all day benefit going on near me today for the owner of the hardware store. Snowmobile accident in Feb. he lost both legs and an eye. Celebrated his 50th b/d in hospital clinging to life. Soon he will be up and walking on artificial limbs. I am sure they have a plan B for todays doings but I don't where. It was all supposed to be at the baseball field behind my house.

Anyway I am alone for a while. Already chalked off a couple of chores. Now I can go take a nap.
Tomorrow we have an outdoor church service (if it is not raining), followed by a pancake breakfast there. Then Brennan and I head down to Somerset for our annual visit to a church carnival there. He loves cakewalks among other things. Plan to have a great time too. Other grandma couldn't make it to this one this year. A friend's 65th birthday party I guess. Otherwise she loves to go with.

Uncle Scotty has been jerking me around again lately. He was supposed to stop w/brennan after dr. appt. forgot. that's o.k. I did call and Brennan got his cast off, Hurray. Doc said he could play baseball now. But his baseball season is over now, so that's no big woopy. Uncle Scotty likes to be spontaneous he calls it. Is leaving for the cabin today. Likes to tease people as well. He knows Brennan & I have plans for the weekend. Have had them on the calendar for almost a year now. Said he would call me by 7:30 about making arrangements for Brennan so we could still keep our planned activities. Never called (he has a habit of that). I finally called him last night because I was tired of waiting. Oh yeh, Brennan can stay with his mom a few days so we can still do our thing. See if he goes up north with the little ones, then his in-laws will take care of them and he can play golf, fish, etc. Here Carla works, goes to night classes and is interning in a joh. Since he is laid off that means he is in charge of the housework & pre-schoolers. He thinks that the fairies do housework when you aren't looking. He shouldn't have to. Seriously I know a man's self worth is connected to his job and right now he is laid off but he just doesn't "get it" when it comes to the keeping the house in fairly clean condition. There is always stuff laying all over when you come and you nearly trip over the clutter. Really do you "have" to have a dozen pair of shoes right in front of the front door to have to trip or step over to get in the door. Can't they be on one side of the area or something. Right now I have 5 pr. of shoes by my back door but they are behind the door and you don't even see them till you close the door. How hard is that. Kids toys can be thrown into a laundry basket real fast and blankets & pillows can be piled in one spot if you are done in the living room watching t.v. on the floor.
Sorry - I am being bitchy this morning. My back hurts and I still have to do some chores before I head out for work. Am critter sitting too and need to stop there before I go to work. Mistress of the house is on a camping trip.

Brennan and I were at camp. For those of you not familiar with Luther Point in Grantsburg, it is a big camp serving alot of Lutheran Churches from all over. We were at the last session of Grandparent Grandchild camp for the season (they held 4 I think). Going on at the same time was Guitar Camp, Horse Camp, Drama Camp and the regular 5th & 6th grade session of Camp. It is a big place. I sure had fun and I think Brennan did too. Lots of activities (outdoors) for everyone. Brennan learned that what we did was about the same things that the regular 5th & 6th grade campers did only at different times. He did spy some of his school friends in regular camp too. He made friends with many of the others in our group as well. It was a positive week for him. I had taken him before for a shorter stay but this was more of a learning experience for him.
I am trying to replace the bad experience he had with camp at age 8. His mom sent him to one thru her church that was not a good one. I want him to know camp like I had it as a kid and as a counselor and that my kids had. the fun and campfires etc.

On the way home we stopped to pick up my paycheck and get Brennan a haircut and get a Blizzard. I dropped him off and then came home to do laundry.

I remember turning on PBS at 6:30 last night. I remember waking up and seeing the clock say 7:30. Do I want to try and wake up or not. I decided the heck with it and went to bed. woke up at 5:30 this a.m. I never sleep more then about 6 hours. I couldn't believe it. I slept about 11 hours. Must have needed it though.

changed the laundry around this a.m., went out for breakfast (oatmeal) and then futzed around my office for a few minutes, just to get my mind organized as to what I am going to do Monday a.m. and came on home. Now I have laundry to finish. Hangups and folding. Hopefully the grass will be dry enough then to start the mowing. If I get one side done this a.m. that is all I am asking of myself. I can do the other side tomorrow after church. We will see. I may even get most of it done today, who knows. I just need to veg out for a while too. Camp was fun but tiring on an old lady.

I don't have treasured "Things" to pass down but I have some recipes.

our family fruitcake recipe and the recipe for yulekaka (christmas bread). My family loves them but #2 son will be the only one to make it. He was real disappointed this past Christmas when I got too busy getting ready to host the holidays that I never got around to making the yulekaka. This year it is his famly's turn to host so I will have time. It takes about 3 hours to make just one yulekaka with the double rising time.

feels funny not to see very many journals any more. Most of you seem to prefer to do the phrase or a couple sentences over on facebook instead. Oh well, the phases people go through. Maybe it was all that talk about LJ ending or something or just that facebook in the in thing now. I miss the journal entries though.

Telling me you are going to bed or that you are making banana bread or something is not communicating with your fellow man.

I enjoy reading about Ren's adventures and she is very good about posting too. Love Angelsmom talking about the residents and her family and Bruno etc.

I know you are all busy but I still wanted you to know I miss you all. Facebook is fine to say "I'm alive" but communication should be more then that.

wannigan Days & awsome house

One of the things I do at work is sell office supplies and take ads for our newspapers. In the 13 years I have worked for this company we have never had much business during the annual Wannigan Days celebration in St. Croix Falls. I was busy yesterday. Not so much $ wise but people coming in and looking around etc. On no notice I did have to make 1000 fliers for a local Pizza place. He suddenly got it in his head to go to the race track today and wanted the fliers to hand out. It was early afternoon but I told him I would do the best I could. The machine sometimes overheats so you have to let it rest a bit part way through. Then I had several paper jams as well. Did get them done before I closed though. He also was aware that the coupons had an expiration date on them that expired in June but he didn't care. It was a very busy day but for the most part fun. the last half hour was real crazy so I still have paperwork on my desk for Monday. Had to leave though as was picking up Brennan.

Brennan called about 2:30 to say pick me up at the New House. His family (aunt and uncle who are raising him now) closed on the new house that morning. There had been a couple of delays before so we were keeping our fingers crossed for them. Man is that house awesome. Brennan took me by it before but neither he nor I had seen the inside or the back yard, just the front yard and the outside of the house. It is beautiful. Brennan's area is in the lower level. He and little Eli each have their own rooms, a full bath with a whirlpool tub/shower. The laundry room is down there too along with a real nice big central room that can be used as a play area or a living room or whatever. Upstairs is a nice sized dining room/living room,Kitchen and 2 bedrooms. They have a 2 car garage plus the driveway for cars, and a walk out patio overlooking the back yard. The back yard is huge. Has 2 little water falls by the patio, a chain link dog kennel a storage shed for tools etc. long yard with playground stuff. the wood combination slide, swings and fort. lots of grass and flower beds and it is all fenced in with a high wooden fence. I fell in love with it.

I told them that if they thought Brennan could be of any help he certainly could stay and help with the moving. But with the cast on his arm no way could he carry boxes or anything anyway so he is with me. They will come sometime today with a truck and pick up the boxes of his that have been stored in my basement since last Sept. when he moved in with them temporarily. They have been here until it was decided where he was going to live permanently.

He and I were at the local baseball game last night for a while but his arm was hurting so we came on home. It must have really been hurting because he always wants to watch baseball. And he was sitting in the dugout besides.

We are going to go see "Harry Potter" this afternoon and see how he feels tonight about going to the baseball game again. It is fan appreciation night so I think there will be a lot of giveaways. They do a lot of drawings during the game then. In past years he won a couple of things.

It's been a while. while John and Deb were in St. Louis I spent an extended weekend in St. Paul at their place. What a nice relaxing time I had too. Lots of different stores that I rarely get a chance to be in. Bought lots of books, some greeting cards, a few meals out and some cable t.v. and got to cuddle with two cats. His fish are shy and every time they catch you even glancing in their direction they hide, esp. the big gold one. Had lunch with a very old friend on my way home on Sunday. Monday night it was Brennan's ball practice. That took the whole evening. Yesterday was an early deadline day at the paper so we were busy along with my end of the month stuff. Then I got groceries and came on home. Tonight it is a couple house chores. I have Friday off for the holiday and the weekend will be spent doing house chores and critter sitting for a friend who is on an Alaskan cruise. Just same ole same ole. Just found out my favorite used book store and my favorite jewelry & rock store are closing. May have to run over there to check on stuff in the next week or so. Sure will miss them.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY GUYS

Celebrated an early Fathers Day with # 2 son yesterday for a few hours. Took a meal over so they did not have to cook. Their new house is really nice. Looks good from the outside as well as the inside. So much room. Not too much but it is spacious and will hold all those people. They have a very nice yard too. I love the neighborhood. The kids school is literally right behind their back yard with the middle and high schools just a couple blocks away. There is a beautiful big park just a block from their house. It has 2 baseball fields, a basketball field, playground part and a nice little pond with a jogging path, bike trail around it and wildlife in the pond. Trees all around so you could just sit and veg out very easily. We were over there playing baseball with the kids for a while. It was too hot to do it for very long though. I did not want to overstay our welcome the first time so we weren't there all day or anything but it was nice.
Jenny goes to school 4 days a week and then has homework on the weekends and they have to do all the running around on weekends as well. With one car it makes it hard. She takes Scott to work, comes home, gets the kids off to school and heads to school herself. Then on her break she picks Scott up from his job, he drops her back at the school and he has the car for a couple more hours to take the kids to their various activities and then picks her up at 9 p.m. when she is out of school. Makes for a full day every day.

When we got home we cooled off for a while and then messed around my back yard. It was just too hot to do much of the mowing but Brennan started while I used the weed whip. Had some supper and then went down to the millpond to do some fishing. The fish were in there. We could see them going after bugs but they sure didn't do much more then nibble at our lines. Finally we said the heck with it and pulled in the lines. Went over to the video store to rent a movie. Turns out it was on sale for $8 so I got it for Brennan instead of renting it. "Paul Blart". It was not something I was interested in so while he was watching it here last night I was catching up on some magazines.

In a few minutes I have to get him up for church. Thought about just skipping it but they have a big Fathers Day Bake Sale going on after the service and we sorta wanted do do that for his Uncle Scotty. After I take him home I have to sit down and write a letter of recommendation for a friend who is applying for a job.

Why, because my sister had a bike and he said I could use that one, no need for me to have one of my own. (hardly ever got to ride sisters bike though).

Was told not to bring him
to performance last night. too adult for a child. I thought I heard other children would be there but didn't see any so good thing I didn't. Carrie was wonderful. The years away have not dulled her performance one bit. She is still magical.
Heard Michael Learned was in audience (Oliva Walton from Walton's Mountain fame) but did not personally see her. visited with several old friends from the theatre though.
Carrie has a housewarming this afternoon and Brennan and I are going to that.

#2 son and family were coming up tomorrow for a visit. Brennan and I were taking them to Fawn-Doe-Rosa for a picnic and an afternoon of fun with the animals. Then Sunday they were coming back for a few hours of us playing around the Day Park or maybe the park behind us for a few hours. This was arranged so that Scott could spend some time with Brennan.

Well, I get a quick phone call at work yesterday saying can we just come and spend the night as it is a lot of gas $ to go back and forth 2 days in a row. Couldn't talk though, he was almost done with his lunch break at work. I said yes. But I also sent an e-mail stating that since the basement hasn't been used since Sept. that it does have dust, etc. I do not have the time or energy to go down there and completely clean the place up on such short notice. I did clean up the bathroom a little and wiped out the kitchen sink. Told them that they can stay but they will have to do the vacuuming, dusting etc. and haul down the air beds and the pillows, blankets, a tall lamp and the radio. If they want the Fridge turned on they can plug that in when they get here.

I will not kill myself over this.

I already had a full schedule of my own chores to do. This also meant a 2nd trip to the grocery store after work yesterday as I had only got a few things on Wed. for the picnic on Saturday. Now I am feeding 6 people, not 2 for the weekend.

I already had mowing started. Did some on Wed. night, yesterday morning before and after work. This morning I got up and saw that those pesky dandelions were all up again where I had mowed on Wed. night so I got out the machine at 5:45 this morning and went over them again. At least I have a corded electric so it does not make alot of noise and I can mow early in the a.m.

Oh lucky me!!

It has been a good day. I got all my cleaning chores at work done (not at home yet though),Hit a garage sale on way to work and got stuff for decorating our work windows at a later date. Got some reading done also. Then I come home and find my neighbor is almost finished mowing my lawn for me. He has been home for a couple of days and will be going back on the road (trucker) tomorrow. Said it was a perfect day to mow and get some fresh air at same time. Besides he figures he can help me out a little in the summer as I helped at winter with the snow. I have a snow blower. When I am doing mine I just keep going and do theirs also. He was rarely home this past winter to do any shoveling. It was nice to see all the mowing done. was on my list for tomorrow. Now all I have to do is some trimming with the weed whip. That shouldn't take very long at all.

Really like having Linda at our office. I have already referred 4 people to her for the Commerical printing. I don't know that much about that end of our company's business and she has been doing commerical printing for 30 years. She & Hubby just sold their business to the company I work for and she will continue to work only out of our office instead of theirs across the river in Taylors Falls. I love the idea. It is so much better then all the phone calls I had to do before back and forth between the customers and our commerical printing people in Frederic. Easier for the customer also.

It's getting cloudy out now - may have rain soon. Saw a lot of bugs when I went out for the mail a bit ago.
